Windows 7 displays "Windows is not Genuine" with an error code of 0x80070005

This post will help you fix an issue with your windows 7 computer. After logging into windows, you might get an error message that would look something like this:

Windows is not genuine

0x80070005

This error will lead to a black desktop background and a message on the bottom right of your screen saying “This copy of Windows is not genuine”, With this you might also get a prompt to activate Windows.

The first thing to do is to check your licensing information, to do that:

Type CMD in your start menu search box
Right Click the CMD ( command prompt icon listed as search result)
Click here Run as administrator
Press yes
type in slmgr.vbs /dlv
Normally, running this command should generate a window like this :

But, instead of this you get a message saying “Error: 0x80070005 Access denied: the requested action requires elevated privileges
Note: look at step 1 to 3 and notice that we have already used an elevated command prompt to check licensing status.
So, if you are getting a error message like the one above, it would mean that either the registry key responsible for Windows licensing activation has some permission issues
or
or the responsible registry keys are missing.

Method 3: Reset your Network Hardware

Assuming that you are connecting to Internet through a Wireless or Wired Network connection, below are the steps to reset these hardware devices
Go to Control Panel
Locate Network and sharing center
From the left pane select change adapter settings
Right Click your Local Area Connection
on Disable
Now, Click here
Right Click your Wireless Network Icon
Click on Disable
Now, Restart your Computer
Go to Network and sharing center again & go to change adapter settings
Enable both the adapters that you previously disabled
Exit Network and sharing center
Now, click here
Open Windows Update & click on check for updates ( left pane )
Click on optional updates & select any hardware driver updates that might be available
alternatively
you can visit your Network Adapter / Motherboard Manufacturer or System Manufacturer’s support website to download and install latest Network adapter drivers
After the update is complete, try running Windows activation again
